Meet The Understorey, Our Winter Drop

The Understorey is here, our winter drop for anyone who wants to layer up without losing the boho feel Hippie Hut is known for. Seven pieces, each one built to work with the others, all sitting inside the new Understorey collection. If you're after winter boho clothing in Australia that actually holds its shape in the cold, this is the drop to start with.

We named it The Understorey because that's the layer of the forest that does the quiet work, the moss, the ferns, the low growth that keeps everything else going. Same idea here: pieces that sit underneath, over, or alongside whatever else is in your wardrobe, rather than pieces that only work as one outfit.

Layering pieces for actual winter mornings

The Juniper Woven Vest is the one to reach for first. It's a woven layering piece, easy over a knit or a long-sleeve, and it doesn't fight with anything else in the drop. Speaking of knits, the Lichen Knit Top is the base layer doing most of the work this season, simple enough to wear on its own on a milder day, warm enough to sit under the vest or the Emberfall Hooded Pullover when the mornings turn properly cold.

For the bottom half, we've gone with two directions. The Mossgrove Patch Flares bring the patchwork detailing through in a flare cut, and the Peatfield Wide-Leg Pants are the straightforward, wear-with-everything option if you want less print and more room to move. The Fern Hollow Patch Skirt rounds out the bottoms with the same patchwork technique in skirt form, good for layering over the flares or wearing on its own with tights underneath.

One accessory, not another layer

The seventh piece is the odd one out on purpose. The Nomad Hemp Sling Bag isn't a layer, it's the accessory that carries everything while your hands stay free for coffee, dog leads, or just staying warm in your pockets. Hemp is a fabric we keep coming back to because it wears in well and doesn't feel precious, which matters on a bag you're going to sling across yourself most days through winter.

A few of the pieces in this drop, including the patchwork ones, come from manufacturers we've been working with since 2020, based in Nepal. We don't dress that fact up, it's just who makes them and how long we've been working together.
